Our lab used implanted depth electrode in epilepsy patients to record neural activity at the level of single neurons. With high resolution, we are able to identify the underlying neural basis of spatial navigation and episodic memory.
In addition to probing signals at individual locations, our lab performs research on a novel signal we discovered recently, in which neuronal oscillations propagate across the cortex. We find that many conventionally measured neuronal signals move across the cortex as traveling waves, including signals whose direction and strength correlate with aspects of behavior such as memory encoding.
